Morningside Baptist Church was organized late in 1947 when the young people of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church were called to establish a Sunday School in the Jeffersonville Road community of Macon, Georgia. The class began with only a few children and fewer adults, and the early meetings were held in an unheated, one-room tin shack in the backyard of one of the adults. The church was first called the Mabel White Chapel, a mission of Mabel Whiteand was under their watch care for nearly two years. In July 1948, the members moved to a new and larger building built by Mabel White and became Mogul Baptist Church. It was organized into a self supporting Missionary Church on November 5, 1950 having 26 charter members. It was admitted to the Rehoboth Baptist Association, and later after incorporation, it became a member of the Macon Baptist Association. Land was purchased form Mrs. Annie Stallworth in October 1954, and the building was physically moved to the new location. On October 24, 1954 the church changed its name to Morningside Baptist Church. A building program was begun in 1956 to build a new sanctuary which was completed in 1958. One of Morningside's greatest revivals was held in the building before the completion of the floor. In September 1977, the Fellowship of Deacons recommended that the church establish an annual Homecoming Day for the third Sunday in September. Morningside has come along way since the early days of the tin shack, and she continues to be fruitful for Christ. We welcome you to be part of our church family as we worship together our Lord Jesus Christ!
